Using the site

CastleEarly is free to use for personal, non-commercial learning. You can play against the computer, solve puzzles, study the lessons and analyze your games as often as you like. Please don't try to break, overload or copy the site in bulk, and don't use automated tools to scrape it.

Fair play

The computer opponent and the game analysis are learning tools. Don't use them to get help during a game you are playing somewhere else. That is cheating, and it's against the rules of every chess site.

Game analysis and imported games

When you analyze games from Chess.com or Lichess, your browser loads the public games directly from their public APIs. CastleEarly does not store them. The analysis is done by a computer engine and is provided for learning only; it can occasionally be wrong. CastleEarly is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Chess.com or Lichess.

Content and licenses

The lessons, explanations and design of CastleEarly belong to CastleEarly. You may share links to any page, and quote short parts with a link back. Some parts of the site come from other people under open licenses, listed on the credits page: the chess pieces (Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike) and the Stockfish chess engine (GNU General Public License v3). Those parts stay under their own licenses.

Ads and links

CastleEarly is supported by ads and may contain affiliate links. We are not responsible for the content of other websites we link to. See our privacy policy for how ads and cookies work.

No warranty

The site is provided "as is", without any warranty. We do our best to keep lessons accurate and the site working, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. To the extent the law allows, CastleEarly is not liable for any loss that comes from using the site.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Continuing to use the site means you accept the updated terms.
